For Sherise ... Painting Faces

This is for Sherise who commented on my double canvas post regarding painting with acrylics and darker skintones. I haven't done a video in a while - I need to get back to them - but here is a video I have on my youtube channel where I'm painting a face :

  1. I completely get where Sharon Tomlinson is coming from with her teaching style. I have learned and I am learning that after you walk out of a class you are supposed to go on your own style. I have always felt this. I have so many sketches and cute litte doodles that it is about time that they come to life. Thank you for your time and enrgy looking up the Youtube video for me that you created. I am so deeply grateful. Once again your work is beautiful.

    1. You're so very welcome!! I've taken a lot of online classes...but Sharon was the first one whose class I took where it all "clicked"... :) Feel free to email me anytime if you have any questions..:)

  2. Thanks so much.I have been watching your Youtubes and I was wondering how do you draw the faces on the canvas? Would I have to apply a gesso over my painted work and then use charcoal. You were able to erase the face when you wanted and I was wondering does a gesso paste cause that? I hope that makes sense. I have been drawing/sketching now my task involves applying it on canvas. I would have to appply the paint on the canvas as the background then draw my sketch with charcoal. Then layer the colors in a blending technique to get the colors for brown. I think I am on the right track.

    1. So glad you like it!!...and I use a chalk pencil - which has an eraser. I paint on canvas as well ... and I don't use gesso - though you can...but it's the chalk pencil that I use. You are definitely on the right track! :)

  3. Thank you! I think I can do this. Okay, and no gesso because I was going to buy some but I did not know what it was for. Thanks for replying to me. You have helped me so much. I just drew a sketch last night when I get frustrated with my quilting. I have all the supplies now and it's time to get down to business. Drawing is such a release and I have a ton to share. Thank you again!
