Mixed Media Excercise: Faces

Alrighty .. first off - I suck at this mixed media stuff. This is my first time SERIOUSLY doing a project - and I don't know about you -but it isn't as easy at it looks on all the blogs!LOL

I joined All Norah's Art ning group, and signed up for the Faces class. So many wonderful and talented artists on this group!!

So, I sign up for the class, and everything that can go wrong - goes wrong. I can't find my mini canvas or printouts that Norah provided, I don't have any napkins...LOL...but - I'm a decorative artist - we IMPROVISE. So, digging around in my hoard..errr..stash, I find a cute little wooden pocketbook.

I can't find the sheet music printouts - so I used a stamp.

THEN, I do my first gel transfer ever. UUGGGHHH!!!! Its terrible looking!!! But, I'm going to keep going.

The ONLY thing that was easy for me, was sketching the face!!LOL ... so today - I transferred my face to my surface...and this is what I have so far.

  1. I think you've started pretty well. Your transfer is OK, just keep up playing :)
Can't wait to see it painted and decorated.
I could send you some napkins, but don't know how long will it take for them to fly your way from Europe :)

  2. I think it is going great. I really like when the transfer does that. You were so clever to use the stamp. I like the paper collage layer on canvas because I like painting on paper when painting so small instead of canvas. Your face is going to be wonderful. Now, tell that little nasty-mouth that is sitting on your shoulder to GET OUT while you are Playing ART. Keep going.

  3. I think you have the basics for a great face going! I, too,m had never done a gel transfer...and I probably could still use some practice. You should pick up some fun napkins...that's a fun exercise....and I havent had a chance to do many faces yet either...just work at your own speed. No art this weekend...son home from college and celebrating his birthday # 22...but I did take several photos of his face to try....:)

  5. Very nice. I have never tried mixed media. I think its intimidating because there is no picture of the final outcome. I seem to loose all my imagination when confronted with something like this. Keni, you did a wonderful job on this purse. Will you use it or just keep it in the studio?

  6. Thanks Marcia. I am going to prob keep it at home ... I'd be afraid that I'd mess it up or lose it, if I used it.
